It was in 1999 that Peter Hughes, Holden’s manager of exterior design, produced a two-dimensional drawing representation of the VE composed previously by Michael Simcoe, Holden’s design director at the time. It was known internally as the "Bill of Design," for the sketch was the foundation for the coming model. The VE Commodore was altered from its former models, like the VE LED lights, the lower-profile side window assemblage, and drawn out wheelbase, but the total look was still commanding and domineering.
Commodore has always been innovative with their tail lights, choosing changed looks for their numerous models.
Commodore chose to use the usual VE LED lights for its inexpensive models, and they employed an exceptionally elaborate look for its luxury models.
For example, the VE Omega came with red rounder lights for its clear reverse and indicator lights. The Calais and Berlina models were adorned with a tri-striped design.
The SSV variation to the VE Commodore included distinctive VE LED lights. The VE LED lights came with a black reflector, along with a chrome bezel with red centred lights, and clear reverse and indicator lamps.
The SSV tail lights have become the tail lights of choice for the VE Commodore, as they have become a favorite selection.
Holden's Special Vehicles decided upon a different sheet metal to remodeled the tail lights. The newer sheet metal was a novel approach for the HSV, as it was a redesigned alteration.
The HSV VE LED lights were rectangular, and Holden selected to have it circle around the rear of the car. The lamps had twin circular LED lights that were very much akin to the Nissan Skyline. The HSV tail lights differ, as they cannot be managed to be put on standard Commodore models. The remaking of the VE LED lights did not halt with only the tail lights, but the headlights were too remodeled. As previously done, luxurious models were decorated with different VE LED lights.
The lower-base models were produced with black reflector headlights, while the luxury models of the VE Commodore and SSV had an outstanding projector lamp that was centred, offsetting the commanding look.
The VE LED lights still are a featured basic of the VE Commodore.
